8 Warning Signs Your Pothos Is Begging for Help

Yellowing Leaves Yellowing leaves, especially near the bottom of the plant, can indicate overwatering, poor drainage, or a nutrient deficiency. It’s a sign that your pothos may need a change in care.

Wilting Leaves If the leaves are wilting despite adequate watering, it could be a sign of underwatering or root rot. Check the soil moisture and look for any mushy roots.

Brown Leaf Tips Brown, crispy edges on leaves often point to underwatering, low humidity, or a buildup of salts in the soil. Adjust watering habits or move the plant to a more humid spot.

Leggy Growth Long, spindly stems with few leaves are a sign of inadequate light. Your pothos is stretching toward the light source. Move it to a brighter spot or provide supplemental lighting.

Drooping Leaves If the leaves are drooping despite proper watering, the plant might be suffering from root damage, compacted soil, or a pot that’s too small. Repot if necessary.

Brown or Black Spots on Leaves Fungal infections, overwatering, or exposure to cold drafts can cause dark, wet-looking spots on leaves. Trim affected leaves and adjust care to prevent further spread.

Mushy or Soft Stems Mushy stems are a sure sign of root rot, usually caused by overwatering or poor drainage. Inspect the roots and trim off any decayed parts before repotting.
